Since 1985, the Gujarati Samaj Educational Trust has been running a school for special needs children who are mentally or physically challenged. Thirty-four special educators serve 230 students, the majority of whom come from families living below the poverty line in Goa. In 2004 and 2010, the Trust was recognized by the Government of Goa as the best education-focused NGO for special needs children.
A sum of Rs.1.48 lakhs was donated to Gujarati Samaj, Margao, Goa, towards the provision of equipment for the speech therapy centre and doctor’s consulting rooms for special needs children. The funds were raised through the sale of photographs clicked by Sara Wadhwa – our volunteer – at her exclusive exhibition, Cynosure.
